Kids on the Scale

Easy — logic-grid deduction puzzle

The farm's weighing notes have smudged, and the goat kids' turns and weights need sorting out.

It's weighing day on the little farm. The twins, Clover and Willow, join Biscuit, Nutmeg and Pepper at the scale by the barn door. Each kid weighs a different whole number of kilos. The farmer writes down each kid's weight and a neighbour total: the weights of the kids weighed just before and just after it, added together. The first and last kids have only one neighbour, so their neighbour total is just that neighbour's weight. But the notes have got damp and smudged. Can you work out the missing details?

Clues

  1. Clover was the first kid weighed.

  6. The 6-kilo and 7-kilo kids were weighed one right after the other.
  7. One of the twins, Clover and Willow, was weighed last.
