The Last Throw at the Crown

Hard — logic-grid deduction puzzle

Three friends took the last throw of a pub darts match, and you must work out who threw which darts, who drank and ate what, and who scored how many points.

It was Friday night at the Crown, and the darts match came down to one last throw each. The whole pub went quiet. Gwen, Ray and Tess stepped up to the line one after another. Each of them had a set of darts with a picture on the flights, a drink on the shelf by the board and a snack on the table behind. Everyone threw three darts, and the chalk squeaked on the scoreboard after every one. One of them threw badly, and the other two finished so close that folk were still arguing about it at closing time. Then somebody wiped the scoreboard clean for the next game. Now nobody can agree on who threw what, so it's up to you to sort it out.

Clues

  1. Either the shandy drinker had the peanuts, or that same player threw the shamrock darts, but not both.
  2. Either Ray threw the tiger darts or Ray had the pickled egg, but not both.
  3. Only two of these three were true: whoever threw the dragon darts drank cider, whoever threw the shamrock darts had the pickled egg, and the cider drinker scored 6 points.
  4. Ray threw the tiger darts.
  5. Only two of these three were true: 38 points went to whoever threw the tiger darts, 38 points went to the cola drinker, and the cola drinker had the peanuts.
  6. Only one of these three was true: the player who had the peanuts drank cider, the tiger darts thrower had the crisps, and the cola drinker threw the dragon darts.
  7. If Gwen had the peanuts, then Gwen threw the shamrock darts as well.
