Lemonade on the Stat Sheet

Hard — logic-grid deduction puzzle

Spilled lemonade has blurred the stat sheet, and Rosa has ten minutes to work out what four bench players scored, where they played and which shoes they wore.

Game three of the finals belonged to the bench. When the home team's starters ran out of steam, four substitutes came on: Malik, Tyler, Caleb and Devin. The crowd roared at every basket. Then the final buzzer went, and Rosa, who keeps the stats at the scorer's table, knocked a cup of lemonade right across the sheet. Points, positions and shoe colours ran together into one sticky blur. The TV crew goes live in ten minutes and wants the bench's numbers on screen. Rosa still remembers a few things for certain. Help Rosa put the sheet back together before the cameras roll.

  5. Whoever played forward finished the game with 14 points.
  6. If the shooting guard was not the one who scored 8 points, then Caleb was.

  8. Malik, the player in white shoes and the player who scored 8 points were three different people.
