Don't Drop the Blocks

Medium — logic-grid deduction puzzle

Four handlers compare how many blocks their robots delivered after a slightly wobbly practice.

The opening show had robots dancing hip-hop and trying martial arts. In the practice hall, the next test was quieter: carry foam blocks on a tray without dropping them all over the floor. Four handlers each ran one short practice with one robot. Every handler had a different robot, every robot carried a different coloured tray, and no two robots delivered the same number of blocks. Jiaqi, Wenbo and Zihan were new to handling robots. Xiaolan had done it many times before and was helping the others find their feet. Someone had brought a broom, just in case.

Clues

  1. Between them, Lele and Doudou delivered 38 blocks.
  2. The robot carrying the yellow tray delivered more blocks than Xiaolan's robot, but fewer than the robot carrying the blue tray.
  3. Either Lele or the robot carrying the blue tray delivered 30 blocks, but not both.
  4. Only one of Jiaqi, Wenbo and Zihan looked after the robot that delivered 8 blocks.
  5. The green tray's block count fell somewhere between the count for Wenbo's robot and the count for the blue tray.
  6. Jiaqi looked after Yuanyuan.
