A Sleepless Night in the Line

Easy — logic-grid deduction puzzle

Four friends camped on the pavement for show-court seats, but after a sleepless night they could not remember who arrived when or who brought which snack.

On the night before play began, Oliver, Harriet, George and Imogen rolled out their sleeping bags on the pavement. If they could keep their places in the line until morning, they would get seats on a show court. They turned up one at a time, and each of them brought a different snack to share. Nobody slept much. By sunrise, none of them could remember who had come when, or who had brought what. Can you help them sort it out?

Clues

  1. Harriet joined the line before both Oliver and Imogen.
  2. The scones came out of Oliver's bag.
  3. The friend with the strawberries turned up later than the friend with the scones.
  4. Whoever arrived at midnight had the crisps.
  5. Imogen did not bring the crisps.
