Cool Box at the Courts

Medium — logic-grid deduction puzzle

Freddie, Poppy, Archie and Matilda shared a cool box on the first Monday of the fortnight, then lost the sheet that said who worked where.

It was the first Monday of the grass-court fortnight, and there were ball kids out on every court. Freddie, Poppy, Archie and Matilda shared one cool box. Each of them worked one match that day, each on a different court, and no two of their matches started at the same time. Whenever the players changed ends, each of the four grabbed a drink from the box, and each one stuck to a different drink. Two of the courts, Centre Court and No 1 Court, had a roof. The other two were open to the sky. A sheet taped to the lid said who went where, but by evening it was gone. So the four had to piece the day back together from what they remembered.

Clues

  1. Poppy's match started before both Matilda's and Freddie's.
  2. Archie stuck to water all day.
  3. On Centre Court, the ball kid drank iced tea.
  4. Either Poppy worked on Centre Court or on No 1 Court, one of the two with a roof.
  5. Only one of the two roofed courts, Centre Court and No 1 Court, had the 5pm match.
  6. The kid working the 5pm match drank water.
  7. The ball kid on No 3 Court never had the lemonade.
  8. Freddie's match began later than the one on No 3 Court.
