The Smudged Register — Daily puzzle for 2026-10-26

Very Easy — logic-grid deduction puzzle

Spilled cleaning fluid has smudged the village clinic's register, and the staff need help working out who came when, and why.

Every patient who visits the village clinic gets written into the big register on the front desk. On this busy morning, the first four names in it were Otto, Rosamund, Barnaby and Cordelia. Then the nurse, hurrying back to the treatment room, knocked over a bottle of cleaning fluid. It ran right across the open page, and the ink blurred into blue puddles. Now nobody can read who came when, or what they came for. The staff each remember a few bits of the morning. Can you help them put it back together?

Clues

  1. Of Otto and Rosamund, one was booked for 8:00 and the other for 8:30.
  2. Otto's appointment was earlier than Rosamund's.
  3. Barnaby was not the one booked for 9:30.
  4. Either the patient booked for 9:00 came for the flu jab, or Barnaby came for the blood test.
  5. Whoever had the 9:00 appointment did not come for the blood test.
  6. Only one of these was true: Rosamund came for the stitch removal, or Otto came for the flu jab.
  7. The eye check was not what brought Otto in.
