Tommy's Mix-Up — Daily puzzle for 2026-10-29

Medium — logic-grid deduction puzzle

Five friends each bowled on a lane of their own with a ball of a different colour, and one of Tommy's three desk notes was wrong.

The bowling alley on Maple Avenue had been open for just a month, and the whole town wanted a go. On Friday night, Dora, Frank, Lena, Walter and Iris came in together. Each friend took a lane of their own and picked a ball from the rack, and no two balls were the same colour. Tommy, the boy at the front desk, was meant to write down who bowled where. Between rings of the till, Tommy scribbled three quick desk notes, and one of them came out wrong. The owner needed the record put right before the names went up on the trophy board.

Clues

  1. Desk note A: Only one of these was true: Frank bowled on the third lane, the maroon ball was rolled on the third lane, or the silver ball was rolled on the fifth lane.
  2. Desk note B: Dora, the bowler with the maroon ball and the bowler on the first lane were three different people.
  3. Desk note C: Lena picked the maroon ball.
  4. Of desk notes A, B and C, only one was wrong and the other two were right.
  5. Of Walter and Frank, one bowled with the navy ball and the other bowled on the third lane.
  6. Dora bowled on either the second lane or the fifth lane, and Lena bowled on the other one.
  7. On the second and fourth lanes, one bowler rolled the silver ball and the other was Dora.
  8. If Walter did not pick the black ball, then Lena was not on the fifth lane.
