Notes in the Wind — Daily puzzle for 2026-10-03

Hard — logic-grid deduction puzzle

The wind scattered the judge's notes, and the scorecard for Delaney, Hollis, Prudence and Trevor has to be pieced back together.

Four handlers came to the moorland arena: Delaney, Hollis, Prudence and Trevor. Each one sent a dog out to gather a small flock of sheep. Every flock wore its own painted marker so the judge could tell them apart. The judge wrote down each score with care. Then a gust of wind swept across the arena, caught the stack of notes and scattered them over the stands. Only a few were found again. Before the prizes can be handed out, someone has to piece the scorecard back together.

Clues

  1. Only one of these is true: Hollis's sheep wore the cross marker, or Hollis ran Haze.
  2. Haze's run scored higher than Dusk's, but lower than Piper's.
  3. Of Delaney and Hollis, one ran Dusk and the other had sheep wearing the cross marker.
  4. One of Prudence and Trevor ran Tuck; the other's sheep wore the dot marker.
  5. Prudence scored higher than both Hollis and Trevor.
  6. The sheep that Tuck gathered wore the crescent marker.
