Rising Water at the Gate — Daily puzzle for 2026-10-06

Easy — logic-grid deduction puzzle

Four volunteers kept watch at a floodgate as the river rose.

Three days of rain had swollen the river, so Ivy, Leonard, Sylvia and Beryl came in for the evening watch at the floodgate. Each of them took a different station along the gate, and the checks went in order, from the first station to the fourth. Every station had its number, one to four, painted on a post beside it. Everyone grabbed a clipboard and pinned on a different badge. Before the work began, each of them tucked away a different snack to eat at the break. Outside, the water kept climbing.

Clues

  1. Of Ivy and Leonard, one took the first station and the other took the second.
  2. Ivy checked an earlier station than Leonard.
  3. One of Sylvia and Beryl wore the comet badge, and the other wore the wave badge.
  4. The crescent badge and the comet badge were worn at stations side by side.
  5. The fig tart went to whoever wore the crescent badge or whoever wore the wave badge, and the sesame bar went to the other of those two.
  6. The volunteers who saved the fig tart and the honey bun worked at stations whose post numbers added up to three.
  7. Beryl worked the station right after Sylvia's.
