Tea Break at the Diving Boards — Daily puzzle for 2026-10-17

Hard — logic-grid deduction puzzle

The work sheet for the diving boards went through the wash, so Everard, Elowen, Edmund and Eulalia must piece their week together from memory.

Once a year the aquatics centre shuts for a week so the diving boards can be put right. There are four of them: two low springboards, at 1 and 3 metres, and two high boards, at 5 and 10 metres. Everard, Elowen, Edmund and Eulalia each took one board and swapped out one worn part, each on a different day: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Somebody left the signed work sheet in an overalls pocket, and it went straight through the wash. Now all the crew has is what they can remember over a cup of tea. Can you help them put the week back together?

Clues

  1. Only one of these tea-break memories is right: that Elowen came in on Thursday, or that Everard came in on Monday.
  2. Either Edmund worked on the 5-metre board, or Eulalia fitted the new handrail, but not both.
  3. Whoever worked on Monday was up on one of the high boards, the 5-metre or the 10-metre.
  4. The new lamp went on a board higher than the new handrail but lower than the new drain cover.
  5. Elowen worked on one of the springboards, the 1-metre board or the 3-metre one.
  6. Everard worked lower down than both Elowen and Eulalia.
  7. The board where the grip tape was replaced was lower than the one where the handrail was replaced.
  8. Eulalia came in on Wednesday or on Thursday.
